Because Fun Matters, Too…

Many of us, myself included, have spent the last few months on the hamster wheel getting Life done: meetings, projects, family, and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. Now, summer is here - or is it? - and there are numerous opportunities to mix business and pleasure with colleagues.

Hewlett Packard (HP) sent out interesting emails recently. Seattle area business leaders were invited to participate in a June 23 event at Silver Cloud Hotel regarding HP’s latest products and solutions, followed by an evening at the ballpark watching the Chicago Cubs vs. Seattle Mariners from a corporate suite at Safeco Field. I was all set to go until a mishap this past Saturday landed me on crutches. Two lucky people will go in my place.

Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) is no gimmicky outfit. Founded in 1984 and the state’s most respected entity of its kind, it has joined forces with other industry powerhouses to provide cutting-edge information, forums, and advocacy on behalf of thousands of members. In so doing, they prove once again that true power (and influence) resides in effective partnership. On June 24, it will have its SUMMER Celebration at Chateau Ste. Michelle, where attendees can enjoy complimentary wine, more than 200 industry colleagues, tours, and a chance to win prizes. What’s not to like? Register now for a special rate with code ‘WSTA’.

Since 2005, Mashable has positioned itself as the go-to resource for Web 2.0 and Social Media news. This year, it decided to launch an international Social Media Day on June 30, encouraging communities to organize their own meetups. Kitsap’s is being held at Amy’s On The Bay from 5:30p to 9:30p, a Port Orchard waterfront restaurant run by community-minded owners Amy and Grant Matsuno. Join in the fun while supporting a great local business!

On July 15, West Sound Technology Association (WSTA) is hosting an informal Happy Hour on the Poulsbo waterfront at The Loft. Network with friends and colleagues as you take in majestic mountain and water views over $2.50 draft and house wines, or $4 menu items. REGISTER, or just show up.

SMB Nation is a dynamic publishing and events company founded in 1999 by author, consultant, speaker, and professor Harry Brelsford. Targeted at the small and medium business (SMB) community, it boasts 45,000 followers worldwide. On August 13, SMB Nations teams up with WSTA for its 10th annual picnic at Summerfield, Brelsford’s Bainbridge Island waterfront estate. Seattle’s Puget Sound Small Business Server User Group, run by Steven Banks and filled with Microsoft MVPs (Most Valuable Professional), will be joining them for what is considered one of the most popular tech and business-related picnics in the region. If you’re a WSTA member or friend, you’re missing out if you’re not at this event.
