Back in the Saddle (I Think)

It’s been a busy yet contemplative time since retiring from WSTA this past October.  Not only did I need to decompress after years of involvement and a grueling work week, time was needed to reassess the direction in which I wanted to go with my private practise.

Enough of that, though. Here I am, and hopefully with some degree of regularity on all things tech and business.

In case you haven’t noticed, Windows 7 is one of the shiny new Microsoft toys many are playing with. Chris Avis and Chris Puckett of Microsoft joined Charles Keating recently on WSTA’s Catching Bytes Radio for an update on Windows 7 and Small Business Server (SBS) 2008.  It turned out to be a lively and interesting discussion from the experts regarding what’s happening with those preparing deployments, and how best to rig up for the transition.

Whether or not you’re planning to install W7, now is past the time to review your IT infrastructure and best practises and budget for upgrades and efficiencies. This isn’t a sales pitch: it’s smart business in an increasingly competitive world. Times are tough — but don’t skimp on critical matters.

As I get back into the groove of posting, we’ll talk more about the latest technology gadgets, tools and trends on the horizon and what they mean to you. I’ll also be doing a Techie In Your Community series (maybe that won’t be the final name) where I’ll spotlight the type of talent you have right here in your own back yard. Not only is it important to know, but it promotes the “think globally, act locally” mantra we hear so often in these parts.

All for now — and Happy Whatever You Celebrate to you and yours!
